From Iran to the Netherlands (and Beyond): My Ongoing Travel and Tech Adventure

Hello everyone! I’d love to share more about who I am and the journey that brought me here. I’m originally from Iran and moved to the Netherlands a few years ago. Although I miss Iran sometimes—especially my family, friends, and our rich culture—I’ve found the Netherlands to be an incredibly beautiful and welcoming place. It’s been almost four years since I arrived, and so far, every day is an exciting adventure.

Travel and Cultural Adventures

I’ve visited many amazing countries, including Turkey, the Qatar, Armenia, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Iceland, Belgium, China, and Thailand. Each time I explore a new place, I’m amazed at how unique the local cultures are—the traditions, the food, and, most importantly, the wonderful people.
  • Turkey: I love the bustling bazaars and the delicious sweets like baklava.
  • Armenia: A country filled with ancient monasteries, beautiful landscapes, and incredibly warm people.
  • Germany: From the historic Berlin Wall to the fairy-tale castles in Bavaria, there’s always something new to discover.
  • Italy: Pizza, pasta, gelato—what’s not to love? Plus, the art and history in cities like Rome and Florence are breathtaking.
  • Spain & Portugal: Vibrant festivals, sunny beaches, and the friendliest locals you’ll ever meet.
  • Iceland: Otherworldly landscapes with volcanoes, glaciers, and hot springs—it feels like stepping onto another planet!
  • Belgium: Waffles, chocolate, and stunning medieval towns—enough said!
  • China: A fascinating blend of ancient culture and cutting-edge technology.
  • Thailand: Tropical beaches, spicy food, and a wonderfully laid-back atmosphere.

I truly believe that seeing new countries and immersing myself in different cultures is one of the best gifts life can offer. It’s always inspiring to meet people from diverse backgrounds, learn their stories, and discover what makes each place special. And I’m not done yet—my list of places to visit keeps growing!

Life in Two Countries

Iran has a vast area of about 1.65 million square kilometers, making it one of the largest countries in the Middle East. In contrast, the Netherlands is roughly 41,500 square kilometers—much smaller, but extremely organized, clean, and beautiful. I’m always in awe of how much the Dutch have managed to achieve in such a compact space: efficient public transport, plentiful bike lanes, and a great work-life balance. It’s also fascinating how tall Dutch people can be—sometimes I feel like I need stilts just to keep up in conversations!

Falling in Love with Technology

My passion for technology started when I was 13 years old, tinkering with a Commodore 64. For those who haven’t seen one, imagine a big, clunky keyboard that connected to a TV and ran programs from cassette tapes. It wasn’t much by today’s standards, but back then, it was a mind-blowing experience. I spent hours learning how to code simple programs, which launched me headfirst into the world of software development.

Over the years, I’ve gained experience in:

  • .NET and Microsoft technologies (my primary stack)
  • DevOps (building smooth pipelines and automations)
  • Databases (both SQL and NoSQL)
  • Java and Android (for mobile and cross-platform applications)
  • Front-End Development (though I’m more focused on back-end)
  • AI and Machine Learning (my newest passion—so many exciting possibilities!)

My Startups and Current Work

I’ve founded a few startups in Iran, tackling everything from web apps to mobile solutions. Each project taught me valuable lessons about innovation, teamwork, and the challenges of bringing new ideas to life. Now that I’m in the Netherlands, I’m working on a brand-new startup that I’m excited to unveil soon. Stay tuned!

In my day job, I work for a banking company here. It’s a wonderful place filled with supportive colleagues who’ve made me feel right at home. The Dutch are kind, open, and, yes, famously direct in their communication—which I’ve grown to appreciate. It cuts through the fluff and gets straight to the point!

Looking to the Future

As the tech world rapidly evolves (especially with AI making giant leaps), I’m more motivated than ever to keep learning and sharing. I hope to use this blog to connect with people from everywhere—sharing travel stories, tech tutorials, startup tips, and personal experiences.

Thank you for joining me on this adventure. I can’t wait to see where the journey takes us next!
